How can my employees request to work on a public holiday?

At Sesame, employees can work on a public holiday if needed. When this happens, they can request compensatory time off. In this entry, we'll explain how to submit a request for compensation after working on a public holiday.

Let's see below how employees can request to work on a public holiday. 

From the dashboard: 

Employees need to go to the Time off section in Sesame. On the calendar, they should click on the public holiday they wish to work. A pop-up window will appear where they can confirm their choice by selecting "Work on a public holiday". Before confirming, they will need to choose one of the following options:

 

  1. Compensate for the day at a later date

By selecting this option, the request will be registered, and it will be recorded that the employee is scheduled to work on the chosen public holiday.

Note: if the administrator has configured an approval workflow, a request will be generated and must be approved or rejected before the compensation is confirmed. 

 

       2. Request compensation day

By selecting this option, a second calendar will appear in the same view, allowing the employee to choose the compensation day right then and there. Once selected, the request will be confirmed.

From the app:

Your employees can also request to work on a public holiday through Sesame's mobile app. It's simple, just follow this path: Apps > Time off > Work on a public holiday.

From there, they can select the public holiday directly from the calendar. The process that follows is the same as on the web dashboard.

 

  1. Compensate for the day at a later date 

By selecting this option, the request will be registered, and it will be recorded that the employee is scheduled to work on the chosen public holiday.

Note: if the administrator has configured an approval workflow, a request will be generated and must be approved or rejected before the compensation is confirmed.  

Once the employee confirms they will work on a public holiday, a "Compensate worked public holiday" button will automatically appear next to the "Work on a public holiday" button in the Request time off menu. This allows them to request a compensatory day off later on.

 

       2. Request compensation day  

By selecting this option, a second calendar will open in the same view. From there, they can choose the compensation day right away. Once selected, the request will be confirmed.

Note: since the compensation day is selected upfront, the "Compensate worked public holiday" button won’t appear later—there will be no pending time off to request.
