How does overtime validation work?

Overtime validation can work in two ways, depending on how you configure it in step 3 ("Overtime") of your policy:

  • Automatic validation: overtime is validated automatically and goes directly to the employee's accumulated balance, with no intervention needed.

  • Validation by responsible managers: each day an employee generates positive overtime (more hours than they were due), that time is held as "pending validation" and is not automatically added to the overtime balance. For that time to count, a responsible manager must approve it from an approval flow (by default, it is assigned to the clock ins/outs validator); if they reject it, that overtime is not added to the balance.

Validation requests depend on the management periods you have defined in step 4 of the policy creation process (daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly, etc.).

The person(s) responsible for managing overtime can validate or reject requests from Requests >> Overtime.
